As a dispatcher you will be responsible for:

  • The coordination of the operations of Watt & Stewart.
  • Your duties will include updating of Customers, Drivers and the Operations team.
  • Planning the trucks and freight, in the most efficient way possible to meet company and customers needs.
  • The successful candidate must work well with others, possess good problem-solving skills and have strong communications and computer skills. 
  • You will need to work well in a high paced, dynamic, team environment and be able to multi-task well in the ever-changing environment of transportation, to help meet customers needs. 

How you’ll help:

  • As part of our Dispatch team you will operate as a point of contact for the drivers, shippers and customers.
  • Communicate specific freight requirements and procedures to the drivers, e.g. load details and freight bill numbers and confirming we have proper equipment to complete the job.
  • Assist drivers in planning and coordinating deliveries and pick ups. This will require monitoring the drivers Hours of Service and available miles
  • Planning pickups and deliveries that work into the drivers and customer’s schedule. 
  • Work with customers to determine truck volume needs and create a plan to successfully deliver power that fits into their delivery needs.
  • Work with the sales and operations team to create a plan and dispatch the trucks appropriately, to make the plan work best for the customer and Watt & Stewart.
  • You will keep the dispatch systems up to date and organized.
  • Report fleet performance to operations and management.
  •  Monitor and report KPI’s.
  • Monitoring and assurance that cost per mile is aligned with projections for, driver productivity, empty miles.
  • Relaying any delays to customers and/or drivers. 

Responsibilities:

  • You will be working with our driving fleet to guide and assist them.
  • Manage drivers start and end times to meet company needs.
  • The capability and willingness to resolve trouble issues.
  • Assisting in the supply chain, from customers request, to delivery, in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Manage a high level of email volume.
  • Receive orders from customers via email and phone, negotiate competitive rates, provide proper documentation and ensure delivery schedules are met.
  • Follow- up to ensure deliveries are on schedule according to the logistical plans of the team.
  • Assist the team to determine the best way to ship, negotiate rates and provide all the necessary documentation.
  • Be familiar with piecing together cargo on a flatbed trailer, setting up permits and equipment necessary to haul the customer’s cargo.
  • Schedule and coordinate client orders, equipment, and manpower within the dispatch software.
  • Coordinate schedule for drivers and loads
  • Update trucks daily inside dispatch software using our GPS tracking software
  • Assist in obtaining permits for trucks and equipment travelling to sites as required
  • Communicate daily operations with management
  • Assist management with project/load quoting

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience in transportation planning and scheduling in a computer dispatch system
  • A Strong knowledge of Canadian/ United States geography and a solid understanding of time and distance
  • A working understanding of the Hours of service regulations. 
  • Must have proven team leadership experience or at least three years, preferably in a transportation setting, with excellent administrative, organizational, training and time-management skills
  • Secondary education (college diploma) or minimum high school diploma with equivalent experience
  • The ability to simultaneously handle multiple customers, tasks and issues in a professional manner, showing a consistent sense of urgency, while maintaining acute attention to detail
  • Experience developing effective and systematic methods to ensure process integrity is maintained when in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • Capacity to quickly comprehend and apply policies while recognizing opportunities to suggest improvements
  • Be proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) to leverage communication and analytical skills
  • A willingness and availability to participate in an after hours and weekends call schedule
